Alexis Ward is a composer, conductor, singer, and pianist. She holds both a Bachelor's and Master's degree in music from the University of Delaware and has been teaching for over 16 years.
Alexis Ward is an enthusiastic teacher and musician. Outside of her busy schedule in the music world, she enjoys her life in Newark, Delaware living with her husband, her daughter, her Siberian husky, and tabby cat! To get a closer look, we asked Mrs. Ward a few getting-to-know-you questions. Enjoy!
Where are you from and can you tell us something about that place?
I'm a 100% Delawarean! I was born in Wilmington and grew up in Newark. I'm a great lover of our First State and enjoy our tax-free shopping, an occassional Wawa hoagie, and frequenting our beautiful parks like Rockwood, Glasgow, Carousel, and Lum's Pond.
What are your other hobbies and interests outside of music?
I absolutely love to cook and can't get enough of the Food Network Channel!
What are some of the most interesting places you’ve traveled to?
One of the first times I ever left the country was to tour with my choir in Shanghai and Beijing, China. What a long flight! The sights, sounds, and smells were like nothing I'd experienced before. We had amazing food and incredible experiences. I even got to sing with my choir on the Great Wall of China. Surprisingly decent acoustic up there!
What board game or video game are you absolutely amazing at and why?
I'm currently undefeated at Wheel of Fortune on our switch! I've always had a love for words. Although I do also love (and am pretty good at) board games like Apples to Apples, Game of Things, Villanous, and Cribbage.
What’s the last thing you read?
The last thing I read was "Of Mice and Men" by Steinbeck.
Which meal is your favorite: breakfast, lunch, or dinner?
I have to say breakfast!
If you could have any exotic or wild animal as a pet, which would it be?
If it weren't crazy dangerous...I've always wanted a giant grizzly bear for a best friend.
What is your favorite holiday and why?
That's a really close tie between Halloween and Thanksgiving. Autumn is my all time favorite season. Dressing up and playing pretend on Halloween is such a blast, but I also love cooking. So Thanksgiving is the best holdiay for enjoying my other passion - cooking!
If you could time travel, when and where would you go?
Although I'm a big history nerd, I think I'd actually want to travel 100 years in the future to see how the world has changed.
If you could relive one moment in your life, what would it be?
I would relive the moment after my daughter was born when I got to see and hold her for the first time. It was such an incredible moment!
